25,625 Confiscated Motorcycles: A Traffic Crisis Unveiled

In Pakistan as of April 29, the Sindh government has intensified efforts to combat traffic infractions. Up until now, they've detained 25,625 motorcycles due to rule breaches, impounding 278 automobiles which were subsequently handed over to courts, particularly targeting unauthorized three-wheeled motorcycle taxis known locally as "Qinqis," with another 278 operators being apprehended. Senior minister and provincial official for information, transportation, and mass transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon reported that from April 16 through April 28, authorities filed 99 First Information Reports (FIR) under Section 188, initiated legal proceedings in one instance related to careless driving or speeding under Section 279, and documented 21 incidents involving disturbances under Section 341 along designated thoroughfares throughout their enforcement drive. Moreover, officials intercepted 13 non-licensed Qinqis, took possession of 27 liquefied petroleum gas/compressed natural gas conversion systems, and imposed fines totaling 4,119 times across various locations. The administration further enforced stringent measures upon large and small cargo carriers leading to the confiscation of 416 such units; additionally, recommendations were made to revoke registrations for 25 instances among both categories of freight conveyances whereas temporary suspensions followed by releases post rectification procedures affected 380 others. Sharjeel Inam Memon reiterated his office’s dedication towards fostering safer streets within Sindh—one characterized by adherence to regulations and enhanced convenience for residents. This initiative isn’t viewed merely as sporadic activity but rather integral component of broader systemic enhancements set forth persistently irrespective of distinctions. Concurrently, ongoing endeavors aim at eradicating unlawful vehicle operations alongside those lacking proper documentation or employing inferior fuel supply apparatuses. Recognizing collaboration essentiality toward enduring progress, he appealed earnestly calling out every citizen including chauffeurs involved in vehicular services urging compliance strictly adhered to statutory mandates.
